Chilean Patagonia expedition tour

The holiday season is the greatest excuse to escape and come to meet the great Southern Ice Fields of Chile, made up of 48 glaciers, which can be known from aboard the cruise ship Skorpios III, cruising through the Kaweskar Explorers on the road.

From there you can see all the appeal of an area that, by far, it remains protected from the rapid development of other regions. Landscapes and places as exotic and primitive are part of the whole trip, and many, who visit this places, will want to come back at once.

A prime and faithful example is the case of Mr. Jorge Aristizabal, an Colombia gentleman that his 91 years, this year toured for the fifth consecutive time the glaciers of Patagonia and the third time travelled through the Kaweskar´s road. "After getting to know many beautiful things in the world this trip is really amazing," Said Jorge, who travels in the company of his wife Amelia Archila.

And there is, as explained by the captain of the cruise ship Constantino Kochifas Carcamo, “are the remains of the world, where everything was covered with ice.”

The magic of the adventure

The adventure starts at 247 kilometers from Punta Arenas, the most populated city in the Chilean Patagonia. A journey by bus for two and a half hours, allows travellers appreciate the pampas Chilean flocks, guanacos and a topography that melts in the distance with blue sky, to Puerto Natales.

Punta Arenas Chilean PatagoniaEvery year, around this time until April, more than 2,500 passengers approaching this vessel to enter between cays and channels from the Pacific sea. In Puerto Natales, the capital of the province of La Ultima Esperanza, is the cruise ship Skorpios III that will carry tourists to visit the most surprising places of Patagonia. Captain Constantine and his wife Mimi are personally responsible for receiving the travellers.

The traditional Patagonian BBQ-roast and a cocktail of pisco sours are part of the welcome cruise of six days and five nights of navigation, and the announcement for a trip that will enjoy the best wines and the best seafood on board of the ship. An additional day will be dedicated to learn about the natural wealth of Puerto Natales, that will carry tourists to travel among all the attractions, the National Park Torres del Paine.

The road also leads to the natural monument, the Cave of Milodon, declared a Natural Monument because in that place were found, 200 years ago, remains of the extinct prehistoric animal, much like a giant anteater.

While others glaciers suffer from the gradual melting, this imposing iceberg is still in a neoglacial position.
