Tegucigalpa is the capital of Honduras. Located in the center of the country on a plateau about 990 meters. Surrounded by hills, among which stands out in the north, Cerro El Picacho (1240 m). Its population is 1,250,000 inhabitants (estimated 2006).
Choluteca River crosses the city from north to south and divides it into two zones: the actual Tegucigalpa, east, and Comayagüela, a city Tegucigalpa in 1898 merged with the west.     There are several colonial towns near Tegucigalpa, most of them are really beautiful: Valle de Angeles, Santa Lucia, Ojojona. From Tegucigalpa you can also go to Comayagua in about 1 hour driving to the north. Comayagua is the former capital city of Honduras, it is a colonial city, really beautiful. If you ever go to Tegucigalpa don´t miss a trip to Comayagua.
