Since 2008,all girls and Bolivian people living in Cataluña (Spain) celebrate several parties to honor the beauty and charm of women around Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Maria Gabriela Gonzalez, native from Santa Cruz, is the president of the committee pro Santa Cruz de España affiliated to the Santa Cruz de la Sierra’s Spirit Association, is the one who sets up these celebrations honoring “Camba” beauty. Such are the celebrations which she defines as a “party to celebrate Bolivian traditions”. “I have introduced in Barcelona, beauty contests from my hometown. Each one of these represents something from our culture.” Reflect the idiosyncrasy of our people and our identity.”
That is the way Maria Gabriela Gonzalez Egüez, born in Portachuelo, Santa Cruz, in 1980, explains herself. She has been in Barcelona for five years now, and since de first moment, has worked in order to promote Eastern Bolivian culture and values. Maria Gabriela is licensed in International relationships, fashion designer and image assessor for the Lapislázuli School in Santa Cruz, as well as Personal shopper of the International Hair Styling and Fashion School in Spain. She is currently studying a Master in make-up and hair styling at EPRO beauty and fashion school. For her, aesthetics is not merely a matter of aspect but a manifestation of Bolivia’s positive aspects.
Maria Gabriela seeks for candidates. Then she make them up, and most important, creates their dresses. Some typical Bolivian customs done with her dedication and trying to highlight monuments and traditions from her country. “Tradition is what I like the most and that is why I want to pass my country’s to Spain”, she points out. Since May 2008 she organizes an assorted agenda of beauty contests for all the components of the Santa Cruz Spirit – which constitutes itself as a true federation -. “All the contests have some sense and represent something symbolic for Bolivia’s east side”, points out Maria Gabriela. Because of her contribution to the diffusion of Cruz native women beauty, Maria Gabriela received this year the medal honoring the merit given by the National Association of the Spain Fifth Centenary Mayors.
Celebrations of Bolivian beauty in Cataluña attract Bolivian and Spaniards in crowded parties, and the Bolivian go to the popular Catalán parties with their young queens. One sample of that is the celebration of the Merced party this year. This same year as well, the attending public was mainly formed by Spanish citizens chose Miss Santa Cruz. The awarded was Leonela Oliva Domínguez, native from Portachuelo, Santa Cruz. Soraya Talamas, on the other hand, was elected queen of the Cruzean Tradition in Cataluña. Jean Carla Amelunge got the Santa Cruz Bicentenary queen title. Jessica Abdala was elected as Miss Santa Cruz. The queens of the “Camba” beauty around Aragon, Murcia and Baleares were also chosen.
