Poas Volcano, Costa Rica

Poas Volcano, Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a country I admire for its policy of preserving natural areas, an entire model at the international level, even despite some problems and abuses, such as the controversial development of tourism investment in areas that should be preserved. However, good results and projection of Costa Rica as an ecotourism destination, seem to indicate that it is on track.
Among the main attractions of the country, there is nothing less than a number of national parks, lush vegetation in most of the territory, a climate blessed by the tropical heat, its coastline with beaches and an interior no less striking, with valleys, coffee plantations and history.
But what attracts us in this entry is none other than the Poas Volcano, a natural wonder of the country. Accessible from the city of Alajuela, Poas is an active volcano which stars one of the many National Parks. The area is ideal to discover its scenic routes, through valleys, coffee plantations and farmers up to the Poas Volcano, if you’re in a good mood, will make the clouds that tend to hide it.
The Poas is located in the Central Volcanic Mountain Range, 37 km and 10 km from Alajuela Poasito. One of the most spectacular volcanoes in the country, amid a forest of varied vegetation. To our relief, no eruptions since 1952, although the record does not count too violent eruptions. The highlight of a visit to Poas is the crater, a natural spectacle as one of the largest in the world, and with great geothermal activity.
