Garza - The Islets

The Archipelago of 365 small volcanic islands (one for each day of the year), located in Lake Cocibolca at 3 km from Granada.

All the islands enjoy a lush flora and fauna, rich in waterfowl. They can visit by boat leaving the port or Puerto Asese Cabins, located at the southern end of the Malecón of Granada.

In the archipelago of islets you can walk the narrow channels separating the islands, admire the nineteenth century fortress on the island of St. Paul. There is also a colony of monkey slaving in a small island and, curious, goes to the boat when it nears.

Another important island is the Zapatero Island, who has been declared National Park and home to one of the most important archaeological sites, where it is possible to observe pre-Columbian statues carved in stone, as well as caves with tombs. Other burial sites exist on the island of the Dead.

Many of these islands are private property, some are still inhabited by fishing families. There is possibility of fishing and water sports.

Mombacho Volcano Vista Lake Cocibolca

This volcano is located in the Mombacho Volcano Natural Park and has a height of 1400 meters above gives sea level (the fifth Nicaraguan volcanic chain).

Extinct long ago, is completely covered with vegetation that forms a particular ecosystem where they live 50 species of mammals, 174 species of birds, 30 species of reptiles and 750 species of flora.

You can reach the summit on foot or by mobilization traction. On that include a scientific laboratory and a small museum, from where you can make different tracks which border the main crater of the extinct volcano. They are also characteristic of the nature sounds are amplified by the crater.
