In the western part of Canaima National Park, is the Auyantepuy, one of the most famous tepuis. (The tepuis are those mountains that end in huge flat vertical walls.) That tepuy born Angel Falls, with its 979 meters of free fall, the highest in the world.
The view across the jump are two ways to see the Angel Falls. One is from the air by plane and the other is on a tour that leaves from the port Ucaima in Canaima, and lasts more than 3 hours on the river Carrao and then the Churún. From the river Churún, to the viewpoint of Angel Falls, is about an hour to walk through the jungle.
Angel Falls is named in honor of the man who discovered it in 1937, the American adventurer and aviator Jimmy Angel. However, the natives of the area, the Pemon, I had previously known and named Churún Meru.
Another place where you can see the Angel Falls and the Auyantepuy in all its beauty, the island is from Raton. If you ever have the opportunity, be sure to go to the foot of Angel Falls. These views will remain etched in your mind for a lifetime.
